Unfortunately, it can currently take over 20 months to process applications for tax refunds on German income. The main reason for this is the significant and steady increase in the number of applications received in recent years. However, various organisational and IT measures have been and are being taken in the department to sustainably reduce processing times in the medium and long term and to reduce the current backlogs.
